Woke up this morning at 4:15a to Charli (the cat) routing around under the bed. She was so loud! So I put on my slippers and grabbed the flashlight. To my surprise, she was sitting on top of the bed on Kevin's pillow looking interestingly over the side of the bed. I realized we'd caught our first mouse in a sticky trap! It was awful. I knew we were coming into that time of year that the creatures want into the warm house and that mouse traps were necessary. I can't use those flippy ones because I constantly snap my own fingers while setting them!
So I bought a bunch of sticky traps and here we were. What to do? Then I heard another weird sound....like a squirrel or a bird squeaking in the rafters. Orville had told us that the squirrels are obnoxious and wreak havoc everywhere they go so to shoot them all. I slowly climbed the steep stairs up because I couldn't pinpoint where the noise was coming from. Had a bird somehow gotten into the upstairs and couldn't get out/? Charli met me on the stairs all wide-eyed and freaked out. Then I realized it was coming from a corner of the living room, right next to where Sam was laying on her bed! Another mouse caught in a sticky trap and this one was mad! Sam was surprisingly calm and obviously, Charli is NOT a mouser so I decided to go back to bed and hopefully they would die and be quiet before I woke back up.
Back up at 6:30a and both mice are still squirming around. I'm not gonna lie....I was a total girl and creeped out! I grabbed some large work gloves from a box of leftover stuff, put the sticky traps in a bag, and threw it into the burn barrel. Where is a man when you need him?? I realize how tough mom used to be....this time of year she would catch 8-12 per day in those flippy traps. We would hear the "snap!", she would empty them out, reset them and move on. Not me.....ugh....at least they aren't snakes!
