Mouse Trapline Tally:
4
(Total to-date for this year!)
It’s so
peaceful here. I just can’t get over
it. I have to stop myself when I do hear
what I think is a car pulling up…it’s either the sound of the train below, a
four-wheeler in the distance, or a generator running. It’s incredible!
I woke up
this morning thinking. It’s been so fun
starting to meet other people that live up and down the trail back and forth to
town. Last week when we went in, I was
unloading at the trailhead and a woman approached me. She asked if we lived up in the Chase area
and how was the trail up that far? I
found out her name is Susan and she and her husband live off the “pink flamingo”
trail from the main trail. I knew
exactly where that was! We had stopped
and checked out the plastic pink flamingo up in the tree about 10 feet. She told me the reason it’s up so high is
because the snow was that deep that year, and they just walked over to the tree
and put it up there. That’s crazy!
Did I mention
the “echo” that went out on the local radio station a couple of weeks ago? The AWESOME realtor that sold us this house
(who, by the way, if you’re looking to buy or sell remote property in this
area, you need her!) also does the news on that radio station. (It’s NPR, so I don’t personally support the
station, but told her that since she does, by working there, that I would have
to tease her about that! She was a good
sport!) Apparently, one of the ways that
they are able to get messages out to remote people is through the “echo”
section of the radio line-up. She had
sent an echo out to US! Something to the
affect: “To T & K, welcome to the
area, see you shortly!” I realized it
was a message to us and was shocked!
Well, Susan had heard that echo also and realized there were new neighbors
in town. She knew exactly the property
we’d bought. So fun to be becoming part
of a close-knit community.
As you can
see above, I have started to keep track of the mice I am slaying. Promise to keep you all posted… 😊
