6.9.23 Friday
Mouse trap line: 2
The trail is officially open! Woo-hoo! I hadn't been to town in over 6 WEEKS until Monday. It felt so good to be back in motion again. Then the challenges began...
I blew a tire on the four wheeler. We'd been babying it but it wasn't holding air. By the time I got to town, it was flat again. My neighbor and trail buddy, Bernie, helped me air it up to get home. I barely made it across the river on the railroad trestle and it was flat again! We realized we'd never make it all the way home. Long story short, it wasn't able to be repaired so we had to double up and head back to town the next day.
I bought a couple of new tires and while in town found a deal on another practically new four-wheeler. We needed a backup and another machine so that Kevin and I can both ride.
I managed to negotiate the delivery of it to the trailhead and here she is!
I named her Ruby. 😎Something else fun I discovered this last week was the joy of eating fiddlehead ferns. They grow wild close to water sources. I've heard about them since we moved to Alaska but never really pursued them. They're cherished like wild mushrooms back in Missouri. Well, I discovered a ton of them by our spring so I picked a mess of them and sautéed them up with a bunch of butter and garlic.
They were really good! A little bit like asparagus. There's something so cool about God providing fresh water for us and being able to pick a wild plant and make a meal of it. God is good!
Stay tuned...
