Snowfall:  5.5"

Mouse Trapline Tally:  6 (It would have been 7 but one escaped from the sticky trap, the dirty dog!)

(Total to-date for this year!)

Hello again!  So in the two weeks after Kevin got home from working in the remote village, he installed a small Toyo (diesel) heater in our main cabin as a back up to the wood stove that we usually heat with.  It takes the edge off in the evening when the generator is running.

I feel spoiled!

We also had 6400 lbs of coal delivered via the railroad for backup to burn in the wood cookstove and the woodstove in the spare cabin.  It's nice to put in overnight because it burns hot and longer than wood typically will in the overnight hours...

It was pretty cool watching them unload it.  Now the work begins....Each bag of coal weighs 1600 lbs so there is no way to drag it up the hill to the house.  Looks like we shovel in small batches...I am NOT looking forward to that! Grrrrr...

Then, before we knew it, two weeks had flown by and it was time for Kevin to head south to visit family.  He hadn't been back in two years and we have three of four grandkids that he had yet to meet!  Waiting for the train...

They were 45 minutes late but they did finally show up! (Notice how Nova likes to photobomb the pictures...😋)

That was a week ago.  He'll be back next weekend.  Oh what to do with my spare time....

So I decided to keep busy by canning some of the hamburger that we recently picked up.  In addition, it's fun to can leftovers, too!

Did you know you can can milk?  I've always wanted to try it and here was my chance!  Kevin is the big milk drinker in the family and we had two full gallons leftover when he left  I knew I would never drink that much while he was gone, so I gave it a try...

Success! (I think.  We'll know more when he gets back and cracks one open as my guinea pig..)

I've also been crocheting some new headband patterns I found online...

Super fun!  Well, that's all the news for now.  We are expecting a big snowstorm starting tomorrow night and may have an additional 12-28" on the ground by the time Kevin gets off the train next week.

Stay tuned!
