Measurable snow YTD: 30.75" (and it's still lightly snowing!)
Mouse Trapline Tally YTD: 9
Hello again! So we continue to figure things out as we go....
We pulled two freight sleds into town last week to get stuff from storage. On the trail, one hitch broke and we lost the sled when I wasn't looking... We had to dump one, go find the other, then rig them together to get to town. Kevin was not having fun...😉
Anyhow, one of the reasons we went to town was to drop off our summer trailer that had a jacked-up axle and needed fixing. Our friend, John, was there to meet us. He grabbed the trailer and also took the one with the broken axle to fix it. The man works magic! (FYI...his company name is The Cajun Flame if you need any welding done...)
It snowed last night. We got about 5" and it's still falling lightly today. It's beautiful!
We continue to lose daylight each day. We're down to six hours and 10 minutes of daylight right now. It's supposed to be bitter cold this next week so we may be tucking in and staying close to home!
When it gets super cold, we've learned to fire up the wood cookstove in addition to the regular woodstove for extra warmth. The problem is, that the cookstove suddenly doesn't want to draft like it should and we have been smoking up the cabin pretty good until the fire gets going good in it. We're working on it...
In the meantime, am I the only person on the planet who CAN'T make homemade bread??? I have tried for years and failed most of the time. It may be edible but it's not tall and fluffy. I am so disappointed. So I've committed myself to working on it this winter. I've had a couple of "no fail" recipes shared with me that I'm willing to try. The first one failed to rise in the woodstove warmer this morning....
Yep, the "no fail" failed....so I have another batch with a different flour and salt mixture in there now. We'll see what happens....
Kevin and I had a quiet, thankful, Thanksgiving yesterday. We have so much to be grateful for every year, but especially THIS year. We are warm, dry, fed, have a little money in the bank and a beautiful homestead that is paid for in full. We've worked hard to accomplish that goal and have proven that with God, all things are possible!
Stay tuned....We're getting ready for a very special visitor next month...
