11.1.22 Tuesday
Measurable snow YTD: 1.25"
Mouse Trapline Tally YTD: 9
It's been a busy few days since I last posted....
We realize that our window to get in and out of town is closing so we've made a few trips on the four-wheeler. Each time, the trail is more frozen and now there is a little snow on the top of it.
It's cold, but not unbearable, if you're dressed for the ride. A 10 degree change can make all the difference in how many layers you may need!
Kevin made some changes to the outhouse to prepare it for winter. Here is a picture of it from this summer...
When it started getting colder, we realized something HAD to be done....I certainly didn't want my rearend to get frozen to the seat! 😂 So I had some foamboard cut at the local hardware store and brought it back. He cut the hole and it works great! Instant warmth!
And he even added a lantern...
Nothing to be embarrassed about here. Remember that childhood book "Everybody Poops"? Well, I'll just leave it there....
One more mention....our water froze. Yep, we were warned about it and now the struggle is real. We were hoping to get some snowfall before it got cold but it just wasn't enough. So Kevin had an idea.....get a sump pump and a small generator, put the pump into the natural spring....
Throw down some hoses and like magic, the water should pump UP the hill!
In theory, it should have worked. We tried two different generators but they just weren't powerful enough to make the water flow. So we resorted to taking containers down to the spring to fill them.
It's ok. Temporary setback. We have another plan....to fill a portable tank on a sled and drag it up the hill to fill containers. We remain optimistic. Supposed to get some snow dumped on us tonight.
Stay tuned!
