Measurable snow YTD: 61.00"/5.08 feet

Hello again!

I forgot to mention in the last post....Some people in the city have "Door Dash" to get groceries delivered....we have "Train Dash"!  I sent an order over to the local grocery store in Talkeetna, they gathered the groceries up, called me with a total to pay for it, drove it to the train depot and WAH-LAH! We received four boxes of groceries when the train pulled up to drop the mechanic and his wife off last Saturday.  How cool is that?? 😎

In other news....we had a wonderful time with Everett, my father-in-law, here last week.  He and Kevin spent some time on the snow machines running around.

They said they were packing the snow but I think they were just playing...maybe a little of both!

We also surprised him by paying for him to spend a few hours with the AK Sled Dog Tour folks last Friday.  It was originally scheduled for Thursday but we got dumped on with snow so had to postpone it.  Kevin rode him into Talkeetna on the snow machine.  They picked him up and took him to their facility.  He was given a crash course and off he went!

A great shout out to them!  This is a man who is hard to impress and he said he had a wonderful time!  One more thing marked off his bucket list!💓

On the way back home that night, Kevin detoured off the main trail and took the "freight trail".  No one had been down that one in several weeks and it was deep with snow.  Our neighbor, Bernie, had taken us down that trail at one point this summer and told us that if anyone ever came to visit, to bring them to a certain lookout spot on that trail.  The guys got to the lookout and had an incredible view of Denali, the tallest mount in North America.

Those are views no tourist will ever see, I promise!

Sunday finally arrived and it was time for Everett to go home.  I snapped a couple of pics of the guys before we went down to wait for the train...

It was dark and -9 degrees while we waited for the train.  It was over 30 minutes late!  I know Everett was getting nervous starting to plot how else he might get home...but they finally showed and the conductor said they were late because they had a "pull-apart" in Denali State Park.  Apparently, it took a little time to get everything reconnected.  Thank goodness they did!

Nonetheless, he was on his way back south and happy to be headed home, I'm sure.  We look forward to you coming back next year, Everett!

For now, we are working on staying warm during this cold snap and hope to get into town for a few supplies before having a quiet Christmas.

Stay tuned!
