Here Comes Spring!

Mouse trap line: 17

Snowfall: 115.25” (9.6’)

I know, it’s been awhile…

I believe we have turned the corner toward spring. Yeah! We had one last hurrah of a snow storm mid-April. We got over 8” of snow and it was a wet one which is unusual for us. It was enough that the crazy neighbors were able to make a snowman…

Friendly neighborhood woodsman

The sad thing is we’ve not even gotten 10 feet of snow this year so that could adversely affect fire season. Let’s pray for enough rain this summer!

The snow is melting fast! This time of year we just hunker down because the trail is too soft for snow machines and not yet ready for four-wheelers so we’re stuck here. I have to admit, I really don’t mind it! We do alot indoors while we wait…

I believe it was two years ago, we bought a used washer/dryer set. We inherited a small off-grid washing machine when we bought this place. I have been so grateful for it too! We started out having to dry our clothes on wooden drying racks placed throughout the cabin and then upgraded to the propane dryer. It was a game changer! We purchased the washer at the same time but it was put into the woodshed to be addressed at a later time. Well, that time ended up being this week when the off-grid washer started acting up. I tell you what, there is just no “quit” in Kevin. When he sets his mind to it, it’s happening, one way or the other. And here is the end result..

We’re uptown now!

How crazy is that?? A full-size washer and dryer deep in the woods! I am so grateful and humbled. Now I don’t have to pull out my washtub and Amish plunger to do it all by hand. I did that at mining camp and it was a lot of work!

We’ve also had some changes in the family this month…our niece from Arkansas got married and our son got engaged! There’s going to be a hitchin’ next year!

And here’s more exciting news! We have another set of new neighbors coming this summer and they will be up here full time just like we are. It’s a pretty big deal! He is coming up next week to settle the sale and she will follow this summer. More info to come down the road as we introduce them to you!

Kevin is also starting to ease into his work season. He’s already been to Anchorage (via the train) this month and will be in and out all summer. I’ve also been blessed with a new job that is fully remote and I start next month. So excited!

Huck: “Is the snow finally done??”

As we wait patiently for the snow to melt and a new season to begin, we look forward to the wildflowers, summer showers, gardening…but not the mosquitoes. Never the mosquitoes! Until next time, stay wild!
